Seller: Hoteles Playa Group, a major hotel group in Spain with some 40, mainly resort, four-star hotels in Spain, expanding into the Caribbean, founded in the late 1960s.
Buyer: Billionaire Inditex founder Amancio Ortega has acquired the Senator Playaballena hotel for €25 million, through his family office, Pontegadea. The property is a part of the Hoteles Playa family group and ceased operations in December. The 324-room, four-star hotel is located near Cádiz on the Costa de la Luz in south-west Spain, between Chipiona and Rota, and features a spa and a small water park.
THPT Comment: Other hotels owned by Senor Ortega include New York’s Murray Hill hotel, Chicago’s Dana Hotel & Spa, and no doubt several others, a drop in the ocean out of Zara’s founder’s US$17.2bn real-estate holdings.
