Date: April 2021
Location: Gervis Road, Easy Cliff, Bournemouth, South Coast, England, UK
Name: ibis Styles Bournemouth
No. of Keys: 76
Seller: Currently a hotel opened in 1936, the Hotel Royale, was owned by Qatari Sheik Al Thani, under his Coast Hotels & Leisure Ltd company, under a Best Western banner.
Buyer: Accor has announced the signing of a new franchise hotel in partnership with NQ2. ibis Styles Bournemouth is set to open in June 2021 and will become the brand’s 30th hotel in the UK.
The hotel, which dates back to 1936, has been completely redesigned ahead of its opening this summer. Like all ibis Styles hotels, the design tells a story that immerses guests in a uniquely designed hotel for an unforgettable experience. Ibis Styles Bournemouth’s contemporary design concept will draw on the bold yet sophisticated pastel colours of ice cream, which Bournemouth is well known for. This palette will give a bright cheerful, nostalgic feel in keeping with the popular coastal location. Devon based Hampton Design Studios have led the design transformation in collaboration with Accor’s Design & Technical Services team.
The refurbished 76-room hotel will feature a ground floor bar, lounge and large restaurant. The hotel will also feature a kids’ zone and an ice-cream station.
Commenting on the new signing, Philip Lassman, VP Development, Accor Northern Europe commented: “We are proud to announce our second Bournemouth location and our second hotel with NQ2. We have enormous confidence in the coastal location of this hotel. Growing up in Bournemouth myself, I know only too well that the town has been one of the UK’s leading seaside resorts for many generations. Bournemouth has enjoyed a resurgence in recent years, particularly in the last 12 months as the UK has embraced staycations.
The UK’s coastline continues to attract demand domestically and internationally and the opening of this hotel reflects our positivity toward UK development. We believe this new hotel is an excellent addition to the ibis Styles portfolio and very much look forward to further serving the Bournemouth community and visitors to the stunning area.”
Toby Barnes-Taylor MBE from NQ2, said: “Bournemouth is thriving, and we are proud to continue our investment and commitment to the town’s hotel and tourism industry. The new ibis Styles hotel and the existing Mercure Bournemouth Queen’s Hotel & Spa are symptomatic of the confidence we and Accor have in the current and longstanding appeal of the coastal town. The last year has reminded us of the treasures on our doorstep and Bournemouth is a national treasure to enjoy this summer and for generations to come. We are eager to present this project to the community and feel that the innovative and vibrant design will connect well with the personality of the area.”
Commenting on the striking design, Ana Jorge, Executive Director Design & Technical Services Eco & Midscale Brands, Accor Northern Europe said: “There’s nothing better than an ice cream on a hot summer day by the seaside and it’s that emotion we have tried to capture in the hotel’s design. With their bold yet sophisticated colours they give a bright cheerful, nostalgic feel to the bedrooms with a gentle nod to the art deco pastel palette of the architecture that is so well known in Bournemouth.”
The hotel is just a short stroll from Bournemouth’s famous beaches and the sights of the town such as Bournemouth Pier. The location also boasts impressive transport connections; a 3-minute drive from Bournemouth rail station, 20-minute drive from Bournemouth Airport and 5-minute drive to the centre of Bournemouth town.
THPT Comment: Good to see this partnership between NQ2 and Accor grow with their second brand hotel in Bournemouth.
