Date: June 2021
Location: Stockport, on the outskirts, South East of Manchester, England, UK
Name: Bredbury Hall Hotel
No. of Keys: 149
Seller: Joint Administrators of Newco Ventures
Buyer: Vine Hotels, chaired by Greg Dyke, former Chairman of the UK’s Football Association and London Weekend Television, owners of nine other hotels in the North of England and further south, down to Dartmouth in Devon.
The sale of the 149 en-suite letting bedroom hotel completed to Vine Hotels following a full open marketing campaign conducted by LSH – Lambert Smith Hampton. The property generated significant interest and numerous bids from several potential suitors.
There are significant opportunities for the hotel’s new owners to re-purpose 16th century barn to take full advantage of pent up demand in the market place for weddings and staycations.
The hotel was bought previously by a Bangladeshi, who set out to refurbish and repair the reputation the hotel had, but sadly ran out of money before he could finish.
The hotel sits in several acres of grounds, with plenty of meeting space.
THPT Comment: This hotel had an “interesting” reputation back in the day, when George Best was playing for Manchester United, as place where he and his team-mates would spend the weekends “frolicking” with young ladies…It is a fine hotel that deserves to be given a new lease of life.
Price: It was guiding at around £6m
Price per Key: If it went at that price, £40,268
First Seen: LSH press release
