Seller: TBA….The ultimate landlord of the hotel, is the former Ulster Unionist MP Danny Kinahan. He is the owner of the Castle Upton Estate on which the hotel was built. Castle Upton, his home on the estate, has been on the market for £1.3m since 2016. Now the hotel on the estate is being sold with a long leasehold interest, expiring in around 170 years. The asking price in February 2019 was £7m, with an annual ground rent of £200,000.

Buyer: The 220-acre Hilton Belfast Templepatrick Golf & Country Club in Northern Ireland has been purchased for an undisclosed sum by Loughview Leisure Group.

Loughview Leisure, which is a subsidiary of the Kilmona property investment group headed by Belfast developer Paddy Kearney, is planning to re-brand the hotel as a DoubleTree by Hilton venue, which will make it the first venue operating the premier Hilton brand in Northern Ireland

Loughview reportedly said that the hotel and golf club will remain open without disruption while the the rebrand takes place. Loughview operations director Stephen Carson as saying, “We’re thrilled to have completed the acquisition of Hilton Templepatrick, given its strategic location and its reputation as one of the favoured destinations in the Northern Irish hotel and golf scene. “We will continue to invest in the resort going forward and have exciting plans to reveal in the upcoming weeks.”

The Irish News quotes Loughview finance director Christopher Kearney as saying, “DoubleTree by Hilton is one of the fastest growing brands within Hilton’s portfolio and we’re very excited to be the first of this franchise in Northern Ireland.”

Loughview’s portfolio of hotels in Northern Ireland also includes Ten Square in central Belfast, Chimney Corner in Newtownabbey, Co. Antrim, and the Loughshore Hotel in Carrickfergus, Co. Antrim.

The acquisition of the Hilton hotel and golf resort in Templepatrick will reportedly bring the number of people employed by Loughview to 250. Latest accounts reportedly reveal that Loughview Leisure Group experienced a bottom line loss of £462,000 last year on a reduced turnover of £8.3 million.
