Name: Hotel Christiania Teater

Location: Stortingsgaten, Oslo, Norway

Number of Keys: 102 rooms and suites

Buyer: Eiendomsspar, a JV between Pandox and the Sundt family

The venerable hotel and theater building in Stortingsgaten will be refurbished for many millions when Eiendomsspar AS takes over ownership. Hotel operations continue under the Nordic region’s most unique hotel portfolio, Nordic Hotels & Resorts.

New history is written when the building many know as “Filmteateret” will receive a solid upgrade more than a hundred years after it first welcomed “Opera Comique” in 1918. Eiendomsspar AS takes over the ownership of and starts planning a renewal of the building that houses Hotel Christiania Theater, one of Oslo’s most beautiful theater stages, as well as the restaurant Teatro.

– We have a long and good collaboration with Eiendomsspar. With them as a farm owner, we have a solid partner for one of the most unique hotels in Norway. Christiania Teater is already ranked as one of Oslo’s best hotels, and with a large-scale renovation underway, this will continue to be a hotel of the highest quality, says Petter A. Stordalen.

The intimate theater hall seats over 400 people. Here, the production companies Starworks and Over Norge will in future provide new life with new stars where Kirsten Flagstad in her time performed in Norway’s first permanent opera company. With a hotel, stage and restaurant under one roof, guests can enjoy an entire evening in one and the same building.

This agreement allows us to concentrate on developing hotel operations in a unique hotel with a super location. We will be responsible for first-class hotel experiences, and with the plans for refurbishment, we will be able to give guests an even better hotel product than before. Both our guests and our employees can look forward to it, says Henrik Berghult, COO of Nordic Hotels & Resorts.

The building in Nordic Neo – Renaissance style was designed by architect Henry Fearnley Coll in collaboration with the Danish architect Hack Kampmann. After the occupying forces established propaganda theater in the building from 1941-45, Det norske teatret, Filmteatret and Christiania Teater were successively located in Stortingsgaten 16, before it was converted into a hotel in 2010.

This unique building fits perfectly into our portfolio. It has a fantastic location and quality products in both hotel and restaurant. When we now also breathe new life into the historical scene with performances of the highest class, the house will continue its historical tradition of being a place for fantastic experiences, says Christian Ringnes, CEO, Eiendomsspar.

Advisors for Eiendomsspar have been Advokatfirmaet Thommessen and Pangea Property Partners. Ro Sommernes Advokatfirma has assisted Strawberry Fields.
