Hospitality design expert Dexter Moren Associates (DMA) has announced the completion of the new three-star Hampton by Hilton Dublin City Centre, opposite the Four Courts and Law Library in Smithfield, an up-and-coming area of Dublin.
With its elegant elongated Roman brick façade and generous aluminium-framed windows, this striking new addition to the Dublin hospitality scene replaces the long-derelict River House office block that once housed the city’s motor tax office. Just a short walk from Dublin Castle and the Guinness Storehouse, Hampton by Hilton Dublin City Centre contains 249 rooms across seven floors, with a mezzanine level between ground and first floor. A self-contained guest gym is situated in the basement, which also contains the back of house areas.
DMA was appointed by MB McNamara Construction Ltd as executive architect to take the project through RIBA stages 3 to 5.
Explains John Harding, partner at DMA: “As a world-renowned leader in hospitality design with a deep understanding of all major developer and operator requirements, we were invited by McNamara Construction to apply our hospitality expertise and experience to deliver this new Dublin hotel to Hilton brand standards. Collaborating with local practice TODD Architects to ensure compliance with local building regulations, our focus was to make sure the build process went as smoothly and efficiently as possible whilst guaranteeing the quality of the end product.”
To enable a shorter construction programme, the project has been built from top to bottom: the transfer slab at level 1 was built first to allow the erection of the upper levels and level 1 to basement following.
John Harding adds: “Following a number of delays due to pandemic working restrictions, we are delighted to see this scheme reach completion, building further on our strong track record of delivering hotel projects that achieve commercial success and contribute to the revitalisation of inner-city areas. Not only will the hotel bring additional jobs and vibrancy to a burgeoning area of Dublin, but it is a bricks-and-mortar statement of belief that the tourism and leisure industry, hit so badly by the pandemic, will rebound with both domestic and international travellers returning.”
Hampton by Hilton Dublin City Centre opened its doors to guests July 6th 2022.
This new hotel joins the stable of some seven hotels in London, Dublin and Waterford under the JMK Group, owned by John Kajani, who started business with one small 21-key hotel in Kensington, London in 2009.

THPT Comment: John Kajani has done well moving on from a small boutique unbranded hotel in London, to this, his seventh hotel, with the others under IHG as well as Hilton brands…Well done
