A project that’s been years in the making (planning was submitted in 2016), The Twenty Two, a new hotel, private members’ club and all-day public restaurant overlooking Grosvenor Square in London’s Mayfair district, has announced plans to make its long-awaited debut in the first quarter of 2022. Located at 22 Grosvenor Square, within a grade II-listed manor dating back to the first decade of the last century, the scheme is being envisaged as a ‘westside hideaway for creative cohorts, local residents and international guests in London’.

This 42,500 sq ft hotel will feature 31 bedrooms and suites, including a mews house, all overlooking the iconic Grosvenor Square, formerly home to the US Embassy. The ambitious project is being brought to life by owner and creative lead Navid Mirtorabi, the former proprietor of Blakes London whose current portfolio includes Humble (as founder), Lunaz Design – Classic Electrical Cars (as co-founder) and Little Emperors (as investor).

TOPHOTELNEWS understands that serial hospitality entrepreneur Mirtorabi only sold his stake in Blakes London, which he acquired more than a decade ago, in March 2021.

“We want to redefine the traditional Mayfair hotel and club by bringing a new community to this iconic part of the city,” said Mirtorabi. “To create a space where people can come together and feel welcome, regardless of where they come from, what their profession is and what they choose to wear. London is a melting pot of creative people from all cultural backgrounds and we want to celebrate that at The Twenty Two.”

The interior design is being led by Natalia Miyar and her eponymous practice. Complementing work by French interior designer Bambi Sloan – a consultant on the scheme – she is working closely with Mirtorabi throughout. Miyar’s first hotel project, the spaces here will be decorated in an opulent yet welcoming style.

Among the elements promised are rich textured fabrics, embroidered silks, lush velvets and bespoke wallpaper in a modern reinterpretation of classic maximalism. Bedrooms, moreover, will incorporate bespoke amenities, 24-hour room service and minibars, while some are also expected to showcase newly restored original architectural features such as double-height ceilings.

In terms of F&B, the culinary offering will feature the highest quality seasonal produce, local suppliers and mindful practices; the restaurant, helmed by executive chef Alan Christie, will serve modern British menus with a southern European flair. And the drinks programme across The Twenty Two’s four bars will highlight the brand’s own spirits, cocktails and low-ABV alternatives.

Members of The Twenty Two, as well as hotel guests, will be encouraged to use the accompanying private members’ club as a place to work together and relax, helped by exclusive access to an all-day lounge with a bar and outdoor terrace, an evening dining room with a covered outdoor terrace, and a cocktail den.

The scheme will be overseen by managing director Darius Namdar, whose previous experience includes stints at The Wolseley, Chiltern Firehouse, The Beaumont and Mark’s Club.

“Our vision is to instil a more playful side to Mayfair,” explained Namdar. “We want everyone who passes through The Twenty Two to experience exceptional service, be greeted with a smile and, most importantly, feel welcome and accepted, whilst enjoying the best hospitality London has to offer.”
