Marriott Brings St. Regis Brand to Venice

Main Photo: The St Regis Venice as was in 1867

Date: October 2019

Location: Grand Canal, Punta della Dogana, Venice, Italy

Name: St Regis Venice

No. of Keys: 169 (40 of which are suites)

Seller: The property opened following a two-year renovation. The hotel itself is a collection of five Venetian palaces, and the oldest one dates back to the 1600s. The palaces were converted into the Hotel Barbesi in 1868, and it was renamed the Hotel Britannia in 1881. In 1938, the hotel was sold to the Compagnia Italiana Grandi Alberghi. Starwood purchased a 70% stake in the Ciga chain as part of its acquisition of the former ITT Corporation in the late 1990s.

Buyer: Marriott International has brought its St. Regis brand to Venice, Italy, close to the Piazza San Marco.

The hotel has 169 guestrooms and suites, many with private terraces or Juliet balconies. Public spaces include several restaurants and bars, the Astor boardroom for meetings and the Canaletto Room for larger functions, as well as private gardens and terraces. The hotel also has an exercise room and spa suites for treatments from Carita Paris.

Guest room décor was inspired by the painter Claude Monet, who was also a guest of the hotel. The rooms are intended to represent spirit of the artistic and cultural heritage of the buildings, the hotel said, and many include terraces with views of the Grand Canal.

The St. Regis Venice marks the brand’s third location in Italy, joining The St. Regis Florence and The St. Regis Rome.
