Plans Revealed for New 174-Bed Aparthotel, in Birmingham UK

Seller: The hotel was a former Thistle Hotel, and was planned to be made into a DoubleTree by Hilton back in 2019, under the ownership of asset manager Downing LLP.

Buyer: Property developer SevenCapital has submitted plans to Birmingham City Council to transform the Royal Angus Hotel on St Chad’s Queensway into a 174-bed aparthotel. The plans also include a communal ground floor facility and winter gardens. They are partnered on this project by Colmore Tang.

The hotel will have 174 rooms ranging from standard rooms, studios, some with balconies and One-Bed Apartments, with panoramic views across Birmingham.

SevenCapital bought the 186-bedroom Royal Angus Hotel in central Birmingham in August as part of plans to expand its hospitality business. The hotel, which was also formerly a Thistle hotel, is near to the city’s Snow Hill train station and Colmore Business District.

The firm wants to build on the success of its existing four-star Park Regis Hotel which is also located within the city centre near to Edgbaston at Five Ways.

The hotel is set to open in 2022 and will be managed by Switch Hospitality on behalf of Seven Capital and Colmore Tang. Switch Hospitality have extensive projects in Birmingham including Park Regis Birmingham. The Holiday Inn Express Birmingham South, Nite Nite and several serviced offices and apartments.
