The 220-room Shangri-La Jeddah has opened, marking the brand’s first property in Saudi Arabia. Shangri-La Jeddah offers 220 guest rooms, including 148 deluxe, 55 suites, and 17 serviced apartments, with views of the Red Sea and Jeddah skyline. 116 residences are also available for sale within the Burj Assila.

The hotel, located in the 64-storey Burj Assila, forms part of the two-billion Saudi Riyal mixed-use development project. The site is close to the Jeddah Corniche Circuit, home to the Saudi Arabia Grand Prix – the fastest street circuit in Formula 1.

Several dining venues comprise the Chinese restaurant Shang Palace, an all-day dining restaurant The Waterfront Kitchen, and patisserie COPA. The Wellness Club at Shangri-La spans two floors. It features a gym with Technogym equipment, a spa with treatments from Natura Bissé, a sauna and jacuzzi, as well as a hammam.

An outdoor swimming pool is located on the seventh floor, and a Kids’ Club provides activities and entertainment for families. Other facilities include the 960 square-metre Shangri-La Grand Ballroom with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the Red Sea. In support of the Saudi Vision 2030, Saudis make up approximately half of the hotel colleagues.

The hotel’s furnishings, which draw inspiration from the Corniche’s natural surroundings, are decorated in blue, white, and grey tones, with strategically placed windows letting in plenty of natural light to infuse public areas and guest room.

The 220 elegant guest rooms and suites and 17 serviced apartments, have floor-to-ceiling windows that offer sweeping views over the Red Sea and the Jeddah skyline, coupled with nautical accents of light wood panelling and blue patterned carpets, and huge terraces that fully immerse visitors in the tranquillity of the waterfront, further establishing a sense of place.

THPT Comment: Situated in the exclusive Burj Assila (and Jeddah’s tallest building at 260m high) the hotel forms part of the two-billion Saudi Riyal mixed-use development project. Shangri-La like hotels within tall buildings, as per The Shard in London…and the mixed use hotel and residences concept, which seems de rigeur for top-end chains
