In November, ESS Group will open it’s 11th hotel destination, originally planned to called Jimmy’z in Gothenburg, Sweden. The name has changed and will be called Jacy’z. Has the hotel’s CEO Jimmy Olsson changed its name to Jacy? Was Jimmy’z just a working name? The answer is much more undramatic than that. “We were recently contacted by a company abroad who alerted us that they have trademarked the name Jimmy’z” – we’re (THPT) guessing the famous Jimmy’z in Monte Carlo. “We have had a friendly dialogue with them and tried to find a way to co-exist, but we are not getting to the finish line. Their wish is that we change our name, something we understand and respect”, says Jimmy Olsson.

The concept that Jacy’z offers is completely unchanged – 233 rooms that offer several different restaurant and bar concepts, a pool club 100 meters up in the air, a large meeting facility, roof terrace and a lot of activities such as pool tables, ping pong, flower shops and golf simulators.

The style we can expect from the new Jacy’z

The destination takes place in the 28-storey skyscraper that is being built in the middle of Gothenburg. 14 of the floors will become Jacy’z Hotel & Resort, the remaining floors will be offices. The building has received a lot of attention for its design and is already described today as a new landmark for the city of Gothenburg.

Jacy’z interior design is inspired by mid-century glamour ”Las Vegas”, with distinct 1960s touches in all details, and features an airy, sophisticated color palette, balanced with a lot of cool fabrics and extra fluffy pillows. Materials being used such as wood & crisp marble including geometric patterns with a fresh & bold new look – overall infused with modern photo art.

Jacy’z will offer a variety of titillating experiences. The dizzying view of the city from the 28th floor, in their Miami inspired pool club Pachanga ,where guests can enjoy an ice-cold coco margarita, lobster rolls together with a dip in the crispy pools. At Archies, the vibrant All American Classics restaurant they will serve crowd pleasers daily in a ”more is better” kinda style. If one is more inclined to savour east asian cuisine, head on up to Gogogaga, the skybar & restaurant for delightful bites and handcrafted cocktails in a warm LA-style inspired decor.

Not to mention the hotel-in-the-hotel, JQ with it’s speakeasy bar, the interior is a blend of bold colors, dark & dreamy details with fluffy beds combined with rich textures & natural materials that complement the vibrant facade of the building. Gaby’s Canteen & Deli, will be the go-to-spot for hearty lunches or the best charcuteries.

ESS Group was founded in 2007 when they purchased Ystad Saltsjöbad. They say the hotel was, just like numerous other Swedish beach resorts, a sleepy conference hotel returning to life only during the summer months. At that time, business was sustained by market segments: meetings and conferences and business accommodation. The occupancy was somewhere around 56%. They asked themselves why can’t conference and business hotels be fully booked all year round and why do they have to be so boring? And what if we focused all our work, effort and money in trying to get our guests to return?

These questions became the start of ESS Group’s destination journey. A journey that now has developed into 10 destinations and 15 restaurants. From Ystad Saltsjöbad, MJ’S and Villa Strandvägen in the south of Sweden to Falkenberg Strandbad along the west coast, followed by Hotel Pigalle and Hotel Bellora in Gothenburg and The Steam Hotel just by lake Mälaren close to Stockholm. They have also stepped outside of Sweden and opened Fýri – Resort of Hemsedal in Norway, followed by Marienlyst in Helsingør, Denmark. Our last love Ellery Beach House, is situated on Lidingö in the Stockholm archipelago and our upcoming hotel will be in the neighbourhood Gårda in Gothenburg. Brasserie LIPP, Port du Soleil, Köket, 8ight, Barabicu, Tranquilo, Zamenhof and Excet are restaurants and clubs that we’re also super proud to be part of.
