Date: March 2021
Location: The Avenues development, Kuwait City, Kuwait
Name: Waldorf Astoria Kuwait
No. Keys: 200
Owner: Mabanee – Al Rai Real Estate is the developer of the Avenues, and the two hotels – Waldorf Astoria and Hilton Garden Inn.
Manager: Kuwait is set to receive it’s first Waldorf Astoria brand hotel later this year. Waldorf Astoria is one of Hilton’s most luxurious brands.
Once open, Waldorf Astoria Kuwait will feature 200 keys spread across rooms and suites offering views of the Kuwait City skyline. Other facilities include the 13,560 sqf Waldorf Spa, a club lounge, MICE spaces and a grand ballroom.
The hotel will sit in Kuwait’s The Avenues area, the country’s largest retail, entertainment and lifestyle destination. It will therefore be directly adjacent to the Avenues Mall, which itself has 1,100 shops and 28 cinema screens.
Boasting 200 rooms in a prime location along the city’s Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Road, the Waldorf Astoria Hotel Kuwait will form part of The Avenues, a mixed-use development which will also house the Hilton Garden Inn Kuwait hotel, which is being built as part of the fourth phase of expansion on the site.
The interior design of the Waldorf Astoria Hotel Kuwait has been undertaken by LW Design, an interior design and architecture firm with offices in Dubai, Hong Kong, São Paulo and Riyadh. Their approach to the design of the interiors was to channel the opulence of the Waldorf Astoria brand while at the same time crafting elegant, calming and tranquil spaces for guests to enjoy.
The designers have chosen a neutral palette which favours shades of grey, but these tones are accented with flashes of gold which are echoed in the decadent fixtures and fittings such as lampshades and screens that can be found in the guest rooms. Guests can be pampered in the state of the art spa, work out in the fitness and wellness centre or relax in the rooftop swimming pool.
CallisonRTKL produced the architectural design of the building with the support of Pace. Pace delivered all the phases of The Avenues with leading global design firms including Gensler.
At the moment, those living in Kuwait are dealing with a nationwide curfew limiting movement outside of 5pm to 5am. Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) said the restrictions, which also see the closure of all parks, have been introduced due to recent increases in daily infections.
THPT Comment: Quite a development and a great home for the two Hilton hotels.
